The View

[From the 7/31/25 newsletter]

On Monday, I met up with my old pal and roommate (and first season Amateur Gourmet cast member) Lauren at The View, the newly refurbished, Danny Meyer-owned rotating restaurant at the top of the Marriott Marquis in Midtown.

We sat at the bar upstairs and caught up as we rotated all around midtown Manhattan, with views of the Chrysler Building at Times Square.

Then, when we were done, I journeyed downstairs to the restaurant proper and met up with Craig and our pals Mark and Diana for dinner (see lead pic).

Having already sat by a window, we gave Mark and Diana the view at The View and it was so funny because I was facing the podium at the entrance, a pretty ugly antic view of people coming on and off the elevators. I’d considered asking to change tables, but I got caught up in conversation, and when I looked up again the podium was gone… turns out, when you’re rotating, you’re rotating on both sides. An hour later, a piano player appeared and it was lovely.

And the food was pretty good! We shared this Caesar salad, beef tartare, and crab cake, maybe my favorite thing that we had:

I had a grilled swordfish for my entree — very good — and then we all shared this chocolate cake with caramel sauce.

That was one intense chocolate cake. Craig and I felt a little ill after eating it, but it was worth it.

If you’re looking for a pre-theater venue in midtown Manhattan, you could do a lot worse than The View.
