Penny

[From the 9/18/25 newsletter]

Let’s talk about the incredible dinner we had last night at Penny.

Craig and I have been meaning to try Penny forever and last night he was in the city so we made a plan to meet up there for some seafood. And some seafood we got!

This is only half of their Ice Box+, which comes with razor clams, a live scallop (I think that just means they open it up fresh), pickled mussels, fresh oysters, and clams.

It was all so clean-tasting and pristine; the shrimp on the other half of the tray were maybe some of the best shrimp I’ve ever tasted.

The warm brioche with fresh butter was heaven-sent.

Then there was this bass crudo with melon juice:

Squid, stuffed with Swiss chard and seared:

And swordfish wrapped in pork fat before being grilled and served with Jimmy Nardello peppers.

The desserts were wild too. Loved the chocolate mousse with vanilla oil; but the ice cream sandwich with peach ice cream served on brioche was out-of-this-world.

Loved Penny so much. If you’re a seafood fan in NYC and you haven’t been, get thee to the East Village
