Well gourmet readers, it hasn’t been an easy week to be the Amateur Gourmette. My computer is still not cooperating with me, which is sad because there are actually some decent food pictures on there (and I didn’t even run out of camera batteries!). On top of that bothersome obstacle, last night my internet wasn’t…

My grandparents are here, at this very moment, sleeping behind me in my bedroom while I blog to you from my new home on the couch. This is our temporary set-up while I prepare to leave for Italy (I leave on Thursday). They’ll be housing here for the next three weeks: caring for my cat…

There are two ways to approach an evening with friends. The first is to plan everything in advance: the meeting time, the dinner time, the movie time. These types of plans are usually made by what psychologists refer to as “anal personalities.” In other words: me. It took a great deal of restraint to resist…
You have to admit when it first hits your eye you’re like “whoah, does that say what I think it says?” I wonder if they serve baked clams? Sorry! (But you can play too…rated T for Teen.)

A long time ago in a land far away my friend Annette took me to lunch at Kitchenette near the World Trade Center. This was after September 11th but before I moved to New York and I remembered the place as a very cute, very cozy family type joint with breakfast food and biscuits and…

I’d leave my apartment and crave a place to sit and eat a bagel. The closest place, unfortunately, was Dunkin’ Donuts. At first I thought those…
Here’s a classic summer drink that requires two ingredients. Both are readily available at your supermarket or even your drug store: (1) Vanilla Ice Cream; (2) Root Beer. To assemble: scoop a scoop of vanilla ice cream into a large glass; pour root beer on top. Raise your glass and drink! Happy summer!
I get lots of e-mail from people who are eager to share recipes. I am grateful for this but I sometimes wonder: “Why should I be the lucky one with all this information? Why doesn’t everyone share with everyone else?” And so I am posting this post RIGHT now for you to share your favorite…
