You have to admit when it first hits your eye you’re like “whoah, does that say what I think it says?” I wonder if they serve baked clams? Sorry! (But you can play too…rated T for Teen.)
A while ago now (June 20th, to be exact, so not THAT long ago) Sarah from The Delicious Life tapped me to contribute to a new food blog meme: “The Cook Next Door.” Since I leave for Europe in less than four days, I must answer it now or lose all my credibility in the…
Many food writers, at some point in their careers, drop the Proust bomb. Whether they’re eating mushrooms in a field in Jerusalem or slurping noodles in downtown Beijing, at some point their soul will be stirred, a childhood memory emerges and they write: “Like Proust and his madeleines, I feel myself whisked away to the…

A long time ago in a land far away my friend Annette took me to lunch at Kitchenette near the World Trade Center. This was after September 11th but before I moved to New York and I remembered the place as a very cute, very cozy family type joint with breakfast food and biscuits and…

The sad truth is that sometimes when we touch, the honesty’s too much.…

When young Clotilde devoured New York she went to a spot-o that I hadn’t been yet where they sell gelato. On the Lower East Side near Katz’s deli Walk south on Orchard Hear the growl in your belly. Outside it’s humid you feel yourself sag “Gee, how much further?” Aha! Here’s the flag! Inside it’s…

One nice thing about my web site is that it brings people back into my life who fell out of orbit. Seth and Amy are high school friends who knew me before I was the glorious specimen you see above you now in a red sweater holding a pot. Amy and I e-mailed a bit…
