Profiles in Roughage: The Toasted Coconut Donut

IMG_1917The thing about the toasted coconut donut at Dunkin’ Donuts is that they take the time to toast the coconut. I mean really: wouldn’t the plain coconut donut be enough? Do we really need such an indulgance? And yet they spoil us.Today’s toasted coconut donut featured a soft chewy interior complemented by the crunchy, textured exterior. The toasting gave it all a nice campfire flavor and went perfect dunked in my Dunnkin’ Donuts coffee. All in all, a stellar dining experience.

The toasted coconut is definitely my favorite Dunkin Donuts offering, but I really miss the highly underrated Whole-Wheat Donut. I know it sounds yucky, but it sure was good. The worst Dunkin Donut, on the other hand, is the official donut of the town where I went to high school, Macon, Georgia. It’s a filled donut with chocolate icing on top and MARSHMALLOW CREAM inside–totally barfalicious.

Have you by chance tried the Sour Creme Donut at Dunkin Donuts? If not you should give it a go–it’s delicious. I always fancied myself a Krispy Kreme person, but since I work in a building with a Dunkin Donuts in the lobby they’re slowly winning me over.

Is the Sour Creme Donut really a donut, or a bagle?

It’s a donut. There are cakes that have sour cream in them (including all the best pound cake recipes), so why not in a donut?

I will agree that the Coconut Donut was the highlight of my first Dunkin Donut sampling experiment. I highly recomend the Boston Cream over the Bavarian Cream as well. And it is hard to go wrong with a sour cream donut from anywhere. Arguablely the best style donut in existance. Although I am a fan of cake style over yeast style in general.
